A rickshaw puller by day is a robber by night

Police and villagers arrested 9 people including eight youths during the preparation of robbery in Begamganj of Noakhali. During this time, firearms and looted gold ornaments were seized from them. According to the police, the gang used to drive rickshaws during the day to collect information and commit robberies at night.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Begumganj Circle) Nazmul Hasan Rajib confirmed the matter at a press conference on Friday (July 5). Earlier on Thursday (July 4) night, they were arrested from Lalpur village of Mirwarishpur union and Kamalnagar of Lakshmipur.

The arrested are Kamal Uddin (43) of West Maijchara village of Noakhali Sadar Upazila, his associates Shamim, Raihan, Miraj, Sharif, Helal Uddin, Salauddin, Hasan and goldsmith Ripon. An LG, a pipe gun, two kirichs, three daggers, grill cutters, chawls and five quarters of gold ornaments stolen earlier were recovered from them.

According to the police, there have been several incidents of robbery in Begumganj and surrounding areas. After these incidents, the police increased their activity. On Thursday night, news came that a group of youths led by Kamal were coming from Chittagong to commit robbery in Mirwarishpur. Immediately the local residents were alerted and guarded. They speak incoherently when challenged by strangers around 1:30 am. After being detained and interrogated, they admitted that they were preparing for robbery.

Detained Raihan and some others drove battery-powered auto-rickshaws in Begumganj area. Basically, under the cover of this profession, when they saw the location of robbery in various houses and reported it, they came from Chittagong under the leadership of Kamal and looted the goods. During interrogation, they gave information that they had committed several robberies in Noakhali and Lakshmipur areas.

Meanwhile, they told the police that they sold some of the gold ornaments of the robbery to a Ripon goldsmith of Kamalnagar police station in Lakshmipur. Ripon was later arrested. Meanwhile, 4 loads of 11 annas gold ornaments were recovered from him.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Begumganj Model Police Station Anwarul Islam told Jago News that there are 16 cases of robbery against the detained party leader Kamal in various police stations, including several cases against others. They have been booked under the new Robbery Preparation and Arms Act. The accused have been sent to jail.
