A youth was beaten to death on suspicion of being a thief in Kushtia


A youth named Ariful Islam alias Bush (30) was allegedly beaten to death on suspicion of being a thief in Kushtia’s Daulatpur.

The incident took place in Mahishkundi Purva Para village of Pragpur Union of the upazila on Thursday (July 4). The deceased Ariful is the son of Golam Mustafa of that area.

According to police and local sources, a bicycle was stolen from the house of Golam driver in Mahishkundi East Para area on Tuesday (July 2) night. Later, on suspicion of being a thief, Bush was beaten by the family members of the slave driver on Wednesday (July 3) night. He died on the spot on Thursday morning.

Pragpur Union UP Chairman Ashrafuzzaman Mukul said, ‘The deceased youth is a professional thief and drug addict. Villagers beat him up over a theft incident in the area. He also told them about the theft. Later I heard that he died this morning.’

Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahabubur Rahman said that a person was beaten to death on suspicion of being a thief by local residents and the victim’s family members. Legal action will be taken in this case.
