Accused of throwing acid on wife for divorcing her husband

An angry husband threw acid on his wife at Kendua in Netrakona. The incident took place at Brahmanjat village of Kandiura UP in the upazila around 8:30 on Friday night.

According to police and local sources, Humayun Kabir Baki, son of deceased Zubed Ali of Maska village of Maska UP in the same upazila, got married to Hafsa Akhtar, daughter of Fazlur Rahman Khan of Brammanjat village of Kendua upazila of the district about a century and a half ago. After a few days of marriage, their marital discord started. About 17 years passed like this.

Hafsa Akhtar moved to her father’s house the day after last Eid due to quarrel. On Thursday, Kazi went to the office and divorced her husband. Hafsa’s family members alleged that the angry husband threw acid on his wife on the night of Friday (July 5).

After this incident, the locals rescued him and took him to Kendua Upazila Health Complex and the doctor on duty sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

The victim, Hafsa Akhter, said that her husband had physical problems since marriage. They have no children after 17 years of marriage. He does not treat her even after telling her repeatedly. By beating the opposite. This has been discussed several times. I tried and wanted to have a family with him. I got fed up with his behavior and registered the divorce through the Nikah registrar on Thursday. On hearing this news, on Friday night while having dinner in our house, he threw acid in my nose and mouth with an injection syringe and ran away.

A call was given to husband Humayun Kabir’s mobile phone to inquire about this. But it was not possible to talk because it was closed.

The doctor on duty at Kendua Upazila Hospital said, from what we have seen, it seems that inflammable substances have been thrown on him.

Kendua Police Station OC Enamul Haque said, I rushed to the hospital after hearing about the incident. Doctor said some inflammable substance was thrown on him. The patient has been sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment. An operation is underway to arrest her husband.
