Businessman gets life for raping schoolgirl in Comilla

The court sentenced a businessman named Alauddin (42) to life imprisonment for raping a school girl (13) in Comilla Chouddagram. At the same time, he has been fined two lakh taka, in default of payment he has been sentenced to two months rigorous imprisonment.

On Tuesday (June 11), Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-1 of the district gave the verdict. Convicted Alauddin is a resident of Atgram of Batisa Union of Chouddagram Upazila.

According to court sources, on the morning of July 18, 2020, a child of Chauddagram upazila went to Alauddin’s cosmetics shop to buy kajal with money. At that time he raped the child. Six months after the incident, the child’s body changes, and he becomes ill. On January 11, 2021, the doctor informed that the child was 24 weeks and one day pregnant at Chouddagram Health Complex.

Later, the child’s father filed a case in Chauddagram police station accusing Alauddin. After the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against him in the court. The child has a son. He now lives with his mother at his grandmother’s house. The court gave this verdict on Tuesday as he was found guilty on the basis of evidence.

In the verdict, Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun mentioned that the unborn child of a rape victim can be kept under the supervision of her mother or her relatives. The child can be known by the identity of his father or mother or both. The state will bear the maintenance cost of the child till he reaches the age of 21 years. The government will be able to collect child support from the rapist Alauddin.

Additional counsel for the state, Pradeep Kumar Dutt, told Jago News that the fine imposed against the accused was given as compensation to the rape victim. The court directed the District Commissioner to sell the accused’s property at auction and give compensation to the victim if the amount is not paid.
