Case against couple of senior assistant superintendent of police in Chittagong


Retired Senior Assistant Police Superintendent Md. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against Abul Hashem and his wife Tahreena Begum.

On Thursday (July 4) the case was filed at Chittagong Integrated District Office-1 Musabbir Ahmed, Assistant Director of ACC District Integrated Office-2.

The accused are, Md. of Gaschi village of Raujan police station. Abul Hashem (61) and his wife Taherina Begum (51). The couple lives in Rupsi Housing on Polytechnical College Road under Khulshi police station in the city. Abul Hashem last retired as Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police in 2022. He was Assistant Director of Shilpa Police Chittagong Range. He joined the police in 1988 as an SI.

Atiqul Alam, Deputy Director of ACC Chittagong Integrated Office-2, confirmed the case to Jago News. He said that in one case only Abul Hashem was accused, in another case he was also accused along with his wife.

According to the statement of the case, the ACC started a corruption investigation against the police couple based on the complaints received on the ACC hotline in early 2017. On October 28, 2018, the ACC issued a notice to Abul Hashem and his wife Tahreena to submit their assets. On November 27 of the same year, they submitted their asset statement to ACC. Abul Hashem retired from service on 16 October 2022.

During the verification of the asset statement, the ACC confirmed that in the asset statement submitted to the ACC, Md. Abul Hashem has concealed the information of wealth acquisition of 45 thousand 962 rupees. Besides, the ACC found the fact of acquisition and possession of assets of 18 lakh 60 thousand 294 rupees inconsistent with the known source of income.

On the other hand, while verifying the assets statement of Tahrina Begum, the ACC confirmed the concealment of the information of acquisition of assets of 6 lakh 84 thousand 366 rupees against her. In addition, the ACC found the fact that he had acquired and enjoyed wealth of Tk 43 lakh 32 thousand 456, which was not known to him. In this incident, he was accused of concealing information and acquiring wealth beyond known income. At the same time, Abul Hashem was also accused in the case accusing him of helping him in acquiring this wealth.
