Chinese business delegation visits BGMEA


A Chinese delegation visited the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to discuss cooperation opportunities in the textile and apparel sector.

Huang Liansheng, managing director of China Textile Industrial Corporation for Foreign Economic and Technical Cooperation (CTEXIC), led the 15-member delegation during the visit on Sunday (July 7). The delegation held a meeting with BGMEA leaders including BGMEA President SM Mannan (Kochi), Senior Vice President Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President Abdullah Hill Rakib and Vice President Rakibul Alam Chowdhury.

The meeting discussed potential joint ventures to facilitate sustainable growth in the garment and textile sector, mutual trade benefits, exploration of investment opportunities between Bangladesh and China especially in the textile and apparel industry, strategic partnership and expansion of business horizons.

In the discussion, BGMEA President SM Mannan (Kochi) highlighted to the delegation the various aspects of the garment industry in Bangladesh, the industry’s contribution to the socio-economic sector and how the industry is increasingly shifting towards manufacturing high-value oven and manmade fiber-based garments to keep pace with the changing global market demands.

He said, Bangladesh is currently a promising destination for business and investment due to its strategic geographical location, political stability, growing infrastructure.

In the meeting, BGMEA leaders highlighted the immense potential of Chinese investment in high-end textiles and backward linkage industries in Bangladesh, which would benefit both countries. This Chinese investment will be very helpful especially in the link industry of Bangladesh’s manufactured garment sector.

They also sought China’s assistance in capacity building through exchange of knowledge and technical skills.

Huang Liansheng, Managing Director of CTEXIC, expressed the delegation’s keen interest in Bangladesh’s business and investment environment and policy evaluation, expressing the purpose of the delegation’s visit to Bangladesh.

He said, we are happy to see significant improvement in working environment during the visit of various garment factories. The positive attitude and energetic attitude of the workers here is commendable. Many Chinese companies are keen to find business and investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

Huang Liansheng also said that we would like to share our positive experience with other Chinese companies who have not yet come to Bangladesh. The investment opportunities offered by the country will encourage Chinese companies to explore business opportunities in the country.
