District administration will sow one crore date seeds in Jessore

One crore date palm seeds are being sown across Jessore district. Seed sowing program was inaugurated on Saturday (July 6) noon in Chapatla village of Prembagh union of the upazila on four and a half acres of Khas land.

Abhaynagar upazila administration organized the program. Jessore district administration took the initiative. Abhaynagar upazila executive officer KM Abu Naushad inaugurated the seed sowing program under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abraul Hasan Majumdar.

He said, due to the destruction of the trees, the tradition of ‘Jash date palm juice of Jessore’ is about to be lost. Due to which, along with sowing one crore date palm seeds across the district, an initiative has been taken to plant about 15 thousand date saplings. In continuation of that, this master plan was inaugurated in Abhaynagar upazila. This program will be inaugurated in other upazilas in phases.

He also said that these seeds and saplings will be planted on government private land, near private fish enclosures, public and private school-college and madrassa premises, river banks and various roads.

Abhaynagar upazila executive officer and president of the inauguration ceremony KM Abu Naushad said that 3 million date palm seeds will be sown in 30 days across Abhaynagar. At the same time, three thousand palm trees will be planted.
