Dudhkumar river dam broke and flooded 15 villages

In Nageshwari of Kurigram, the Dudhkumar river has broken its dam and water is entering the locality. About 15 more villages have been flooded.

An area of ​​about one hundred meters collapsed at two places of the old beri dam in Miapara area of ​​Bamondanga union of the upazila. As a result, water is entering at high speed through the broken part and flooding one village after another. Nageshwari municipality is likely to be submerged if the water rises further.

Already the villages of Mia Para, Maliani, Senpara, Teliani, Pateshwari, Boaler Dara, Antaipara, Dhanitari, Vidhbatari, Baramani, Bamondanga, Sanjuar Vita, Bhushitari, Fakirtari of Ward No. 3 of Nageshwari Municipality have been flooded due to the breach of the dam.

Bamondanga UP Chairman Asaduzzaman Roni said that ward number 7 of the union was flooded from Friday (July 5) night. On Saturday (July 6) morning, the Miapara barrage collapsed at two places. Several villages were flooded again. Several other dams are at risk of collapse.

Nageshwari upazila executive officer Sibbir Ahmed said that he came to know about the breaking of the dam through the chairman. Nothing can be said without on-site inspection.

Executive Engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board. Rakibul Hasan said that the construction work of Dudhkumar river bank protection dam is ongoing. However, there is no news of the water development board breaking the flood control dam.
