EB students block Kushtia-Khulna highway despite rain


Students of Islami University (EB) protested demanding quota reforms. On Saturday (July 6) around 12 noon, students protested by blocking the Kushtia-Khulna highway adjacent to the main gate of the university. During the blockade, the students continued the blockade even though it started to rain in torrents. As a result, several kilometers of traffic jams were created on both sides of the road. Later, around 12:30 noon, the students left the road.

According to campus sources, the students started the march from Battala near the faculty building of the university around 11:30 am. They took the Kushtia-Khulna highway through the main gate of the campus and circled the Sheikhpara market next to the campus and came back to the main gate. Meanwhile, angry students sat on the highway next to the gate. It stopped the traffic on both sides. Even though it started raining, the students continued the blockade. After about half an hour of blockade, the students left the road.

The students said that due to the current quota system in government jobs, meritorious students are deprived and discriminated against. 56 percent quota in employment is not acceptable at all. We want logical reform of this quota system. Students from all over the country have come to the field. We will not return home until our demands are met.
