I like journalists more than MPs: Barrister Suman

Barrister Syed Syedul Haque Sumon, lawyer of the Supreme Court and Member of Parliament, said that journalists are more like him than MPs. He said, because of the pain I am suffering from the threat to my life for the past one week, no member of parliament has been able to stand by me. But all of you people and lawyers have inquired.

Barrister Suman made such a comment at the newly elected executive committee of the Supreme Court’s Law Reporters Forum on Thursday (July 4).

Speaking as a special guest at the event, Member of Parliament Barrister Syed Syedul Haque Sumon said, “I have seen the journalists of the Supreme Court working with integrity while working from the War Crimes Tribunal. I think they have the ability to lead the country with integrity. I believe the new committee of the Law Reports Forum will go further after taking over today.

At that time, Dhaka Journalist Union (DUJ) President Sohel Haider Chowdhury said that field level journalists are victims of salary discrimination. Today’s Law Reporters Forum’s new committee has taken over. I hope that everyone will work together.

Senior vice president of Dhaka Journalist Union (DUJ) Nazrul Islam Mithu, President of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Syed Sukkur Ali Shubo, former president of LRF M Badiuzzaman, Ashutosh Sarkar, Wakil Ahmed Hiron, Mashhudul Haque, former general secretary Didarul Alam, also spoke on the occasion. Azizul Islam Pannu, Hasan Jabed, Muhammad Yachin, Ahmed Sarwar Hossain Bhunya.

Shamima Akhtar, the outgoing committee president, handed over the responsibility to the newly elected committee president Ashraf-ul-Alam on the occasion. Moniruzzaman Mission, general secretary of the newly elected committee and Habibur Rahman, general secretary of the outgoing committee, completed the process of handing over and accepting responsibility in the presence of both (newly elected and newly retired) committee leaders.
