Imam dies after being stabbed by miscreants in Nilphamari


An imam named Abul Hossain (64) was killed by miscreants in Nilphamari. He died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Saturday (July 6) at 5:30 am while undergoing treatment.

It is known that the attack took place in the area adjacent to Palli Vidyut Office on Nilphamari Asian Highway Road at around 5:30 am last Monday (July 1).

Abul Hossain was Imam and Khatib of Kanaikata Tentultala Jame Masjid in Sadar Upazila. His home is in Sahadeva Baragacha village of Lakshmichap union.

Nilphamari Sadar Police Station OC Tanvirul Islam confirmed the death of Abul Hossain on Saturday morning.

The police and the locals said that Abul Hossain went to teach in Kanaikata Tentultala Ghuntirpar Maktab by bicycle after offering Fajr prayers like every day. When he reached Haratkitla Palli Vidyut Office, someone came on a motorcycle and first sprinkled chilli powder in his eyes. Later he was cut with a sharp weapon. Seeing him lying in a bloody state, a local auto driver rescued him and took him to Nilphamari General Hospital. Later he was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital when his condition worsened.

On Saturday (July 6) morning, the doctor on duty declared Abul Hossain dead.

Nilphamari General Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr. Abdur Rahim told Jago News that Abul Hossain was brought to Nilphamari General Hospital with serious injuries on Monday. He bleeds profusely if he is severely wounded by a sharp weapon. Later he was quickly sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Abul Hossain’s younger son Golam Mostafa complained about this and said, ‘We went to Nilphamari Hospital after receiving the news. The doctor in charge there saw the deterioration of the father’s condition and asked him to take him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital immediately. He died early Saturday morning. I don’t know who or who has cut and injured so brutally. He was not a criminal. Why did you kill my father? We want justice for killing father.’

Nilphamari Sadar Police Station OC Tanvirul Islam told Jago News, ‘It is still not clear why, who or who committed this murder. But investigation is being done taking all aspects into consideration. Multiple police teams are working to unravel the mystery of the incident. It will be possible to unravel the mystery of the murder quickly.’

He also said that the body is in the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue. The body will be handed over to the family after post-mortem.
