International Aquaculture and Sea Food Show starts on July 17

Bangladesh International Aquaculture and Sea Food Show is going to be held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital from July 17 to July 19.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the show. In the information dissemination program organized on the occasion of Bangladesh International Aquaculture and Sea Food Show-2024 at a hotel in Banani in Dhaka on Sunday (July 7) evening, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md. Abdur Rahman confirmed this information.

Minister of Fisheries and Livestock and Awami League Presidium Member Bir Muktijoddha. Abdur Rahman said, this event will be marked as a milestone in the collective progress to advance the aquaculture and sea food sector, which is an essential component of the country’s economy and food security. The event will serve as an important platform for sharing experiences and enhancing cooperation among participants.

The minister also said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman realized the importance of the fisheries sector for the economic prosperity of northern Bangladesh and took various visionary steps. Bangabandhu said in a speech in 1973, we are people of Bangladesh, I have soil, I have Sonar Bengal, I have jute, I have fish, I have livestock. If we can develop, inshallah, we will not have this day. At present, as a result of the adoption and implementation of timely policies and plans under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the total production of fish has reached about 50 million metric tons.

According to recently published statistics by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Bangladesh ranks second in terms of inland fisheries production. He expressed hope that one day Bangladesh will rise to the first place in freshwater fish production.

He said, in 2041, we have a target of 85 lakh metric tons of fish production. He also urged the concerned to continue all efforts to achieve that.

He urged everyone to work together to achieve the goal of reaching USD 5 billion in aquaculture and seafood exports by 2030.

In this three-day event, various sessions related to Aquaculture and Sea Food will be held where the possibilities, challenges and actions to be taken in the fisheries sector of Bangladesh will be discussed. There will be 100 stalls from 35 countries in this event.

Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Directorate of Fisheries, Solidarity Network Asia Limited is organizing Bangladesh International Aquaculture and Seafood. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Bangladesh Frozen Foods Export Association are cooperating in this arrangement.

Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Syed Mahmud Belal Haider and Director General of the Department of Fisheries Syed Md. Alamgir was present on the occasion. Besides, ambassadors/high commissioners and heads of foreign missions of various countries were present on the occasion.
