JICA urged to invest in gas pipeline construction


State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid urged JICA to invest in the construction of a pipeline for gas transmission from Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar. He made this call when JICA Senior Vice President Hara Shohei paid a courtesy call on the State Minister’s office at the Secretariat on Thursday (July 4). During this time they discussed various issues related to mutual interest.

The state minister said that a pipeline is needed to transport gas from Maheshkhali. JICA can invest in laying pipelines. We are not reaping the benefits of the vast ocean blue economy. Here also JICA can work jointly with Bangladesh. I am expecting more contribution from JICA in human resource development.

He said, Japan and JICA are our tested friends. Land-based LNG terminal will be constructed at Ashpond of Matarbari Power Plant. Discussions are also going on about setting up solar power plants.

ZAICA Vice President said, ZAICA has a long-standing relationship with Bangladesh. Every year, JICA is investing in infrastructure development, capacity building, environment protection etc. in Bangladesh. Matarbari Power Plant, Sirajganj Combined Cycle Power Plant, Solar Power Plant, Gas Leakage Detection and ZICA’s contribution to digitization of gas sector is and will be visible. JICA is willing to work on capacity building of BPMI.

During this time he discussed the proper use of existing unused land in Matarbari. Ichiguchi Tamuhide, chief representative of JICA Bangladesh office, among others, was present in the meeting.
