Madsara student missing after boat capsizes in Someshwari river


A madrasa student has gone missing after a boat capsized in the Someswari river at Durgapur in Netrakona. The accident took place on Thursday afternoon at the Kerankhla-Khalishapara Ferry Ghat in Chandigarh Union of that Upazila.

The name of the missing student is Rekha Akhter (17). She is the daughter of Mohram Ali of Khalishapara village in Birishiri union of the upazila and a student of Kerankhla Mahila Madrasa. He has not been found till writing this report.

According to local people and fire service sources, on Thursday afternoon, a dinghy boat with 20-25 people including the student was going from Kerankhla Ferry Ghat to Khalishapara Ghat. The boat started from the Kerankhla ghat on the Someswari river and sank a little ahead. Meanwhile, the other passengers on the boat were saved with the help of locals by cutting the rope. But madrasa student Rekha is missing.

Passenger Sohail Rana, who survived, said that the boat sank because there were too many people in the boat and the bottom of the boat was broken.

Muhammad Ali, the leader of Durgapur Fire Service, said that the boat sank because of a hole in the bottom and to take more passengers. We visited the spot. The diving team of Mymensingh has been informed. When they arrive, the rescue operation will begin.

Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Uttam Chandra Dev said, I have visited the scene. Our police team is on the spot. The diving team will arrive and start the rescue operation.
