Many targets of the budget will not be met: CPD

Research institute CPD has termed the budget for the financial year 2024-25 as an ordinary budget in extraordinary times. The CPD made the comments at this year’s budget review ceremony at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Friday (June 7) morning.

Highlighting various aspects of the budget, CPD Executive Director Fahmida Khatun said that the strong steps required to deal with ongoing economic concerns have not been taken in the 2024-25 fiscal year budget.

The steps taken in the budget to curb inflation and provide relief to low-income people are not enough.

He also said that the targets of inflation, GDP growth, investment in the budget are very ambitious and not realistic. Many targets of economic indicators will not be met in the budget. Failing to realize the ongoing economic challenges, the steps taken to address the challenges in the budget are weak and inadequate. All in all, the 2024-25 budget is a modest budget in extraordinary times.
