Mbappe is not getting the ‘number 10’ jersey at Real

After many days of speculation, Kylian Mbappe has finally signed for Real Madrid. After announcing his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, Real announced that the French star was now theirs after the Champions League final. He will play for the Spanish club from the beginning of next season.

However, Mbappe is not getting the preferred jersey for the club. He will now wear the ‘number 9’ jersey. Mbappe has been wearing the ‘number 7’ jersey at the club level and the ‘number 10’ jersey at the international level. Neither of these are currently vacant.

The number seven jersey is worn by Vinicius Jr., 10 allocated to Luka Modric. Vinicius still has a long career ahead of him, with Modric also extending his contract by a year. So Mbappe will have to wear the number 9 jersey at least next season.

However, French media outlet La Parisien reported that his jersey number is temporary. Mbappe wants to wear the number 10 jersey for Real. But for now, Real have decided to honor Modric, with the French star wanting the same.

Mbappe will be Madrid’s new number ten around 2025-26. Stars like Luis Figo, Sedoroff, Richard Gallego and Frank Puskas wore this jersey. After joining Real in 2009, like Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo had to wear the ‘number 9’ jersey. His number seven jersey later became part of history.
