Meherpur fight over a trivial incident, 7 injured including women

Seven people, including a woman, were injured on both sides in a fight over a trivial matter in Meherpur’s Gangni. The incident took place in Mahamadpur village of Gangni upazila on Friday afternoon.

The injured are Tahajuddin (60), Abbas Ali (42), Tariqul (25) and Sabina Khatun (25). The injured Hasan, Karim, Hafizul have been given first aid. Four of them have been admitted to Gangni Upazila Health Complex.

The injured Tariq said that after the death of his uncle Eklas, aunt Sabina and her three daughters became the owners of his property. In the meantime the two daughters were married and their debts were divided. Aunt Sabina married a villager named Tahaj Uddin. After the marriage, Sabina brought the bulk of the property to her new husband Tahajuddin’s house with the help of her ex-husband. A little money and furniture remained in the ex-husband’s house.


He said that the money was kept by the local chairman which was decided by the family to be kept in the bank for the marriage of the younger daughter. But Aunt Sabina refuses to accept it. When she went to the house with her new husband to fetch other goods, she was stopped.

At one point aunt Sabina Tahaj Uddin and others attacked Tariq and his family members. This led to a fight between the two sides. At least seven people, including a woman, were injured. Locals brought the situation under control and sent the injured to Gangni Upazila Health Complex.


Meherpur Gangni Upazila Health Complex Emergency Department Doctor Seema Biswas said that out of the four seriously injured, Tahajuddin was referred to Kushtia General Hospital as his condition was critical. The rest are safe.

Meherpur Gangni Police Station OC (Investigation) Manojit Kumar Nandi said that he heard the fight and the police were sent to the spot.
