Miss fire during weapons test at police outpost, two shopkeepers shot dead


Two local shopkeepers were shot dead in a misfire during a weapons test of a private bank at a police outpost in Hathazari, Chittagong. The accident took place at Madunaghat police outpost of Burishchar union of Hathajari police station on Monday (June 24) afternoon.

The two injured are shopkeepers in the area around Madunaghat police outpost. This was confirmed by the local UP chairman Mohammad Zaheed Hossain. In this incident, the police filed a GD in that outpost.

The injured shopkeepers are Nurul Abchar (43) son of deceased Nurul Islam of Fateh Mohammad Talukdar house of Ward No. 2 of Burishchhar Union and Mohammad Yakub (55) son of deceased Kabir Ahmed of Tufan Ali Sarang house of the same ward.

Eyewitnesses said that loaded shotguns were being tested standing in the open space behind the outpost. Suddenly two shopkeepers of that area were shot dead. Later, they were rescued and sent to Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) hospital in a bloody state. The shotgun that fired was said to be from the Najumia Hat branch of a private bank.

UP Member of Ward No. 2 on Tuesday afternoon. Anwar Hossain said that after the incident, the injured were rescued and sent to Chamek Hospital for treatment. Among the injured, Mohammad Yakub returned home after receiving treatment. However, Nurul Abchar is still admitted to Chamek Hospital.

Moin Uddin Sumon, in-charge of Madunaghat outpost, said that this is just an accident. A GD has been filed against the police in this sudden incident. Also the incident has been informed to the senior officer.

However, the manager of the Najumia Hat branch of the private bank refused to comment on the matter.
