‘No one cares about us as a small country’

Croatia lost against Italy in 8 minutes added after the scheduled 90 minutes. Reigning champions Italy advanced to the last sixteen of the Euro Championship with a goal in the last minute of extra time. 2018 World Cup runner-up Croatia is waiting for the departure after drawing the match in 30 seconds.

Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic expressed anger at the length of extra time and blamed FIFA and UEFA.

Dalic thinks the 8 minutes added on against Italy was ‘bad’. Blaming UEFA and FIFA, he angrily said, ‘We are a small country…so.’

Unhappy with the extra time awarded by referee Danny McKelley, the Croatia coach added, “The players did not understand why 8 minutes of injury time was given.”

In the press conference, the Croatia coach was asked if his players were overly nervous in the second half and at the end of the game. And that’s why the goal at the last minute?

“Nonsense,” Dalich said angrily. I don’t know why the added time is 8 minutes. We are a small country. No one cares much about us. So we have to turn ourselves around. Added time after this game cannot be 8 minutes. 8 minutes, that’s awful. There weren’t too many breaks or too many fouls in the field to accept that.’

‘I don’t want to talk too much about it. I don’t even want to argue about what happened. I think Croatia needs to be respected and recognized. I would like to thank the boys for their commitment and effort. I am also proud of the supporters. No one can accept such a goal in 98 minutes. That’s how football is’ – added Dalich.
