North City announced a budget of 5,500 crore rupees

The budget of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) for the fiscal year 2024-25 of Tk 5 thousand 594 crore has been announced. This budget was unanimously approved in the corporation’s budget meeting on Sunday (July 7).

In the afternoon, the 29th corporation meeting and budget meeting of the second Parishad was held in the hall of Nagar Bhavan at Gulshan-2 in the capital. The revised budget for the financial year 2023-24 was also approved in the meeting.

It was informed in the meeting that DNCC has collected a record revenue of Tk 1 thousand 78 crore in the financial year 2023-24. Revenue collection has increased by 76 percent in the last four years.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of DNCC Mir Khairul Alam gave the opening speech. Later DNCC chief accounting officer. Barkat Hayat presented the revised budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 and the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. The revised budget presented at the time and the new budget were unanimously approved in the meeting.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said in the chairman’s speech at the meeting, Prime Minister’s directive was that the City Corporation should stand on its own feet, the capacity of the City Corporation should be increased. As per Prime Minister’s directive, we have started activities with the aim of increasing the capacity of DNCC. There is no alternative to increasing revenue to stand on its own feet. Since assuming charge, I have been able to ensure consistent revenue growth. In FY 2024-25, 53 percent of DNCC’s total budget will be met from its own funds. More than half of the total cost will be borne from DNCC’s own funds.

He said, DNCC has created a new milestone in revenue collection without increasing the tax rate. Collection of holding tax and trade license online has increased revenue collection significantly. Citizens can pay DNCC holding tax online at home. As a result, civilian suffering has decreased. The online system has made it possible to curb corruption and irregularities. Transparency and accountability are ensured.

In 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23, the revenue collection of DNCC was 612 crores, 692 crores, 794 crores and 1 thousand 58 crores respectively. DNCC’s revenue collection has increased by nearly 76 percent in the last four years.

In the financial year 2023-24, significant sectors are 517 crore 85 lakh for holding tax, 74 crore 96 lakh for trade license fee, 280 crore for property transfer tax, 104 crore 79 lakh for road digging fee, 32 crore 77 lakh for cow market lease, advertisement fee. DNCC has earned a revenue of Tk 10 crore 59 lakh.

DNCC’s budget has given importance to building a clean city by ensuring prevention of dengue and sustainable waste management to protect public health. Development of drainage system and restoration of canals will be expedited to alleviate waterlogging. Implementation of tree plantation program and other activities will be conducted to combat climate change.

DNCC Secretary Mohammad Masud Alam Siddique conducted the meeting among others, DNCC Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md. Moin Uddin, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, Chief Waste Management Officer Captain Mohammad Fida Hasan, all departmental heads of DNCC and councilors of DNCC were present.
