Petition for cooking beef in Supreme Court bar canteen

A petition has been filed to allow the Supreme Court to allow cooking of beef in canteens of lawyers’ associations to meet the protein needs of lawyers.

On Monday (June 10) the Supreme Court Lawyers Association (Bar Association) along with the lawyer Md. Mahmudul Hasan applied for this.

According to the petition, various items of beef are available in the canteen of the High Court Bar Association of the State of Kerala, India, along with other food items. But it is very sad that beef is not available in the canteens of Bangladesh Supreme Court Lawyers Association. Beef is very tasty and protein rich food.

The petition also states that Supreme Court lawyers need to consume beef to meet their daily protein requirements. The beef available in the canteen of the Supreme Court Bar Association is very expensive and less in quantity. Also, poultry and golden chicken meat are not of standard quality.

“Supreme Court lawyers, especially young lawyers, must be allowed to cook beef in Supreme Court Bar Association canteens to meet their daily protein requirements. But the saddest thing is that beef is not being cooked in the canteens despite the huge demand due to the obstruction of the Supreme Court Bar Association. Beef is a legal food in Bangladesh. By preventing the cooking of beef in the canteens of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association, the lawyers of the Supreme Court are being prevented from consuming legitimate food and the lawyers are being deprived of the necessary nutrition, which is a violation of the right to life under Article 32 of the Constitution of Bangladesh.’

It is said in the petition that the Supreme Court barring the cooking of beef in the canteens of the Bar Association for a handful of people who do not want to eat beef is completely illegal, unconstitutional, because it directly obstructs the right of the lawyers to get the necessary nutrition. Violation of ‘right to life’ as described in s. For those who do not want to eat beef for religious reasons, some separate chairs and tables can be reserved in the canteens of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

Besides, since various items of beef are sold in the canteens of our friendly neighboring country, the most educated state of India, the Kerala High Court Lawyers Association, we have a legitimate expectation that beef should be allowed to be cooked in all canteens of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

Therefore, within seven days of the said application, the Supreme Court will grant permission to cook beef in the canteens of the Bar Association.

Lawyer about the application. Mahmudul Hasan said that a request has been made to take appropriate action in this regard within seven days. If action is not taken within the specified time frame, an appeal will be made to the High Court for redressal.

Earlier, on June 2, 2021, a similar application was made to the Secretary of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association. Mahmudul Hassan.

Incidentally, in 2021, the leaders of the Supreme Court branch of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association protested the incident of cooking beef in the canteen of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association. At the same time, they urged the current committee of the association to take necessary steps to stop cooking beef in the canteen. Four lawyers including President of the Supreme Court Branch of Lawyers Union Parishad Bivas Chandra Biswas made the application.
