Recommends speedy implementation of sewage plants

The ‘Government Institutions Committee’ of the 12th National Parliament recommended the speedy implementation of the Suarez plants. This recommendation was made in the sixth meeting of the committee on Tuesday (June 25). It was presided over by the chairman of the committee. Abul Kalam Azad. In addition, committee members Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury and Md. Siddiqur Rahman Patwari.

In the meeting, the committee recommended the stakeholders to take necessary steps to bridge the gap between potable water and drinking water, including expeditious implementation of sewage plants to facilitate best customer service.

In the meeting, the audit objections of the audit report prepared by the CAG on the Dhaka WASA office under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and presented to the Parliament were fruitfully discussed, some audit objections were resolved. Besides, the Committee recommends to the concerned to dispose of the remaining audit objections within 90 days.

In the meeting, it was recommended to the ministry to analyze the opinions given by the CAG office regarding the income-expenditure, profit-loss account and special trends on the said account in the last 5 years of Dhaka Wasa.

Briefing about the overall activities of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Dhaka WASA) in the meeting; Discussion on the annual report of Dhaka Wasa; Review of pending audit objections in audit report prepared by CAG on Dhaka Wasa and presented to Parliament; Dhaka Wasa’s last five years status, income-expenditure account and profit-loss account and discussion on the said account if there is any special trend; Latest Accounts of Dhaka Wasa (Discussion on Financial and Confidential Management); Under the medium-term budget framework, the statement of estimated accounts for the next three fiscal years and a comparative picture of the achievements of the previous fiscal year 2022-23; The action plan adopted regarding the management of Dhaka Wasa in a more efficient and profitable manner, the issues of ensuring efficiency, improvement and economy were reviewed and the minutes of the fifth meeting were confirmed.

Secretary of Local Government Department, Managing Director of Dhaka Wasa, Heads of various organizations and related officials of Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat were present in the meeting.
