Report on the case of militant robbery from the court on July 17


The court has fixed July 17 for submission of the investigation report in the case of snatching two death-sentenced defendants from the premises of the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court.

Monday (June 10) was the date for submitting the investigation report in the case. However, the investigating officer did not submit the report. That is why Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim fixed this new day.

Earlier, on November 20, 2022, the militants abducted the two convicts who were sentenced to death in the murder case of publisher Deepan by pepper spraying the police. During this time, an attempt was made to snatch the accused Arafat and Sabur. Later, law enforcement forces arrested Arafat and Sabur from the scene.

In this incident, Court Inspector Julhas filed a case at Kotwali police station. In the case, 7-8 more people are named as unknown accused.

According to the statement of the case, Ayman alias Moshiur Rahman (37), Sabbirul Haque Chowdhury alias Akash alias Konik (24), under the plan and direction of Ansar Al Islam’s military wing leader Syed Mohammad Ziaul Haque alias Sagar alias Bara Bhai alias Major Zia (retired major). Tanveer alias Samshed Mia alias Saiful alias Tushar Biswas (26), Riazul Islam alias Riaz alias Suman (26) and Md. Omar Farooq alias Noman alias Ali alias Saad (28) planned to attack the police and kidnap the accused.

In order to implement this plan, 5 to 6 anonymous members of Ansar Al Islam took position with two motorcycles. Besides, around the court and in front of the main gate, 10 to 12 unidentified members of Ansar al-Islam were stationed. They then snatched away the accused from the police.

It is also stated in the statement of the case that on the day of the incident, 12 accused were brought from Kashimpur in a prison van to the Dhaka court. Around 9:40 am, the accused were taken to the Anti-Terrorism Tribunal-8 of the CJM Court Building to appear before the Prosecution Department of Dhaka.

Accused No. 13 who is on bail after the hearing of this case. Eid Amin (27) and accused number 14 Mehdi Hasan Ami alias Rafi (24) left the court.

Then at around 11:55 am, when they reached the main gate of the court, 5 to 6 members of Ansar al-Islam and another 10 to 12 members of Ansar al-Islam stationed around the court were attacked by two motorcycles.

The accused Mainul Hasan Shamim alias Sifat alias Samir alias Imran (24), Md., who is in the custody of constable Azad. Abu Siddique Sohail (34) Md. Arafat Rahman (24) and Md. A. Sabur alias Raju alias Saad alias Sujon (21) attacked the policemen on duty to kill them. When the policemen on duty stopped the militants from doing this, one of the accused hit Constable Azad in the face with an iron cutter in his hand.
