Shabiprabi teachers are on strike again

The teachers of Sylhet’s Shahjalal University of Science and Technology have gone on strike again to demand three points. The program was held at the invitation of Bangladesh University Teachers Association Federation.

On Tuesday (June 25) in front of the central library of the university, a half-day strike was held from 8 am to 1 pm and a sit-in program was held from 12 pm to 1 pm organized by the teachers’ association.

At this time, the President of the University Teachers’ Association Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossain and General Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Alamgir Kabir and other teachers were present.

The teacher leaders said in the program, to protect the self-respect and glory of the teachers, we have been attracting the kind attention of the concerned authorities by holding various programs including public signature, human chain, holding black badges, sit-in program since May. But very regrettably, no effective action has been taken by the appropriate authorities so far. We were supposed to be in the classroom, in the lab, in research. But today we have to stay on the road. It’s a shame for us.

The teachers said, two policies cannot run in one country. The country will be devoid of merit in the manner in which teachers are treated with contempt and neglect by name. We are not able to retain the talented students of the department, they are desperate to go abroad after graduation. The only reason is undervaluation of education system.

They also said, we will wait till June 30. Meanwhile, if the government does not accept our three-point demand, we will observe a complete strike from next July 1 and until our demand is not accepted, all classes, examinations and office activities will be closed.

The demands of the teachers are withdrawal of the discriminatory pension notification issued by the Finance Ministry, inclusion of university teachers in the promised super grade and introduction of separate pay scale for teachers.
