Shanta apologized ‘we have hurt the people of the country’

Despite playing well, many big teams did not get such an opportunity. T20 superpowers like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies have been eliminated. Bangladesh had a chance to play in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, despite losing two matches in a row in the Super Eight.

Today (Tuesday) the Tiger bowlers restricted Afghanistan to just 115 runs. If Bangladesh could have chased this run in 12.1 overs, it would have reached the semi-finals. But Nazmul Hossain Shanta’s team lost while chasing 115.

Bangladesh has left the World Cup Super Eight after losing all three matches. He did not win the match in hand.

Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto is very disappointed after such a loss. In the post-match press conference, he said, ‘I think our bowlers have done well. We should have won on this wicket. We made a lot of wrong decisions as a batting group, which hurt us today. ‘

Did Bangladesh really think of chasing runs in 12.1 overs to play in the semis? Shanto said, ‘First of all we wanted to win the match. That was our primary goal. But when their first innings stalled at 115 runs, our plan was to win in 12.1 overs. That was the plan. I think, as a batting group, we have taken a very bad decision.’

How disappointing is the loss to the Afghans? Shanta’s simple confession, ‘Of course there is a lot of frustration, a lot of pain. Before coming to play this match, everyone’s plan was that we will win the match. If such a situation arises, we will take the opportunity. That was our plan. But we couldn’t. All the batters made bad decisions.’

The Tiger skipper added, ‘The plan was that we would try the first six overs. If we get off to a good start, we will take chances without losing early wickets. But when three wickets fell quickly, we changed the plan to see how we could win the match. Our middle order did not make good decisions. So we lost the match.’

Because if you can chase in 12.1 overs, you have a chance to play in the semis. Why wasn’t a hard-hitting batter like Tawheed Hriday brought down earlier? He was played at number six.

Explaining the reason for this, Shanto said, ‘The reason for the mixup we have done with the batting order is the left-hand right-hand combination. Lytton was batting on one side and there was a lot of variation in their bowling. Because of this we tried to do left hand right hand combination. Everyone knew it. This is why it is done. ‘

Overall, his team failed to live up to the expectations of the fans throughout the tournament. So Shanta apologized to them. He said, ‘Considering the entire tournament, first of all I want to say that we as a team let down the entire Bangladeshi fans. We let down those who follow our game or always support us. I apologize on behalf of the team. We as a batting group could not give anything good to the people of the country. We are sorry for that. We will try to get out of it.’

“The bowling unit has done well. Especially I will mention Rishad, he bowled brilliantly throughout the tournament. Tanjim Shakib also did well. I think all the bowlers have done well. We also did well in fielding in all the matches. There are a lot of positives that we can move forward with,” Shanto added.
