Sunamganj boat sinks, one dead, 3 missing


Police have recovered the body of one of the three people who went missing after their boat sank in the Surma river. Two days after the incident
The body of Jochna Begum (30) was found at Udnar Char (Aman Kitta) of Bhojna village in Surma Union on Thursday (July 4) night.

The deceased Jochna is the wife of Ain Uddin of Paschim Machimpur village. However, Jochna’s one-and-a-half-year-old child Habiba Akhtar and Goljan Begum (70), daughter of Noor Ali of Paschim Machimpur village, have not been found yet.

Monir Uddin, Ward No. 6 member of Surma Union, confirmed the truth of the recovery of the body and said that the matter has been reported to the Doarabazar police station. However, Jochna Begum’s daughter Habiba and Goljan Begum were not found.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dorabazar Police Station Badrul Hasan said, I have received news that the body was floating.

Last Tuesday morning, seven people, including a sailor, were going to Doarabazar Sadar by crossing the Surma river in a small boat from the Azampur shelter area in Doarabazar, Sunamganj. But the small boat went into the middle of the river and sank due to the current.
