Teachers on strike demanding withdrawal of discriminatory pension notification

The Chittagong University (CHB) teachers’ association observed a half-day strike on three-point demands, including the withdrawal of the discriminatory pension notification issued by the finance ministry. Their other two demands are the inclusion of university teachers in the promised super grade and the introduction of a separate pay scale for teachers.

On Tuesday (June 25) in response to the call of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association, the strike lasted for four hours from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Apart from this, the teachers also held a sit-in program in front of Bangabandhu Chattwar University.

President of the University Teachers Association Professor Dr. Mahbub Rahman, General Secretary Professor A. B. M. Abu Noman, former General Secretary Professor Abdul Haque and other teachers were present.

Meanwhile, teacher leaders said that the status of teachers has been undermined in the pension notification issued by the Ministry of Finance. We have been carrying out various programs to meet the demands of teachers for a long time. But unfortunately it has not yet come to the attention of the proper authorities. They may want to see the teachers in the struggle. But now we are supposed to be in academic activities.

They also said that we want to stay within the norms of autonomous universities and not in the Pratya scheme. We have to meet our fair demands. Our three-point demand must be accepted by June 30. Otherwise, the teachers will observe a complete strike from July 1. Until our demand is accepted, the class examination office will be boycotted.
