The hospital detained for the bill, the child died

An allegation of death of a one and a half year old child has been raised due to lack of treatment at Manikganj Munnu Medical College Hospital. The relatives complained that the authorities detained the patient for not paying only 3 thousand rupees. Because of this, he died without treatment.

Relatives protested in the hospital premises in this incident. This incident happened on Sunday (June 2) around 11:30.

The relatives of the deceased child said that on Saturday (June 1) at around 2 o’clock in the morning, Redwan, a one-and-a-half-year-old child of Sohel Gazi of Bakchar village of Shibaloy Upazila, was admitted to Munnu Medical College Hospital. If the child’s condition worsened during the night, the doctor on duty referred him to Dhaka for better treatment at 8 am on Sunday.

Abu Hossain, the uncle of the dead child, complained that the hospital authorities detained the patients and their relatives for a bill of 3 thousand taka despite being referred to Dhaka. Redwan died around 12 noon without receiving any treatment while trapped.

After learning about the incident, the police came to the spot. He also said that the relatives of the deceased protested inside the hospital expressing their anger at such inhuman activities of the hospital authorities.

Munnu Medical College Hospital Director Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam said that the matter is being investigated. If anyone is found guilty, action will be taken against them.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghior police station Sukumar Biswas said that if the relatives of the dead child file a complaint, legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
