Last year, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to restore diplomatic ties after nearly seven years of suspension. Both countries agreed to reopen embassies after days of talks mediated by China.

According to US media CNN, the announcement of restoration of relations was surprising but expected. Because the two countries had been trying to re-establish diplomatic relations for almost two years. Recently the two countries have also increased regular contacts to strengthen the relationship.

President Ibrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter accident on May 20 of this year. After that, early presidential elections were announced in the country. Four candidates competed in the election held on June 28.

If no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the votes in the first phase, the election goes to the second phase or runoff. And in the second phase of the election, Pezheshkian was elected by getting 54 percent of the votes.

After being elected as the president, he said on Saturday that Iran will extend the hand of friendship to everyone. We all are people of this country, for the progress of our country we need to establish friendly relations with everyone.
