The trawler hit the pillar of the bridge, the passengers survived by swimming

Several passengers from the passenger trawler fell into the river after colliding with the pillar of the bridge under construction at Naria in Shariatpur. However, no casualty was reported in this incident.

The incident took place on Sunday (July 7) around 12:15 p.m. under the Bhasha Sainik Golam Maola Bridge, a branch of the Padma River in the upazila.

According to local and police sources, the construction work of Bhasha Sainik Golam Mawla bridge on Kirtinasha river on Naria-Jazira route has been going on for 7 years. Although the construction time was extended several times, the contractor could not complete the work of the bridge.

Meanwhile, the old bridge was demolished a few months ago to make way for the new one. Since then, passengers using this route use trawlers to cross the river. On Sunday around 12:15 pm, a trawler loaded with passengers was going towards Nariya from the western end of the river. Meanwhile, when the trawler collided with a pillar of the bridge under construction, 4 to 5 passengers fell into the river. Later, about 10 to 12 other passengers from the trawler went down into the river to rescue those passengers.

Confirming the truth of the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police (Naria Circle) Ahsan Habib said that due to the excessive current in the river, the trawler collided with the pillar of the under-construction bridge when the driver could not control it. 4 to 5 passengers fell into the river. They were later rescued by other passengers. There was no casualty in this incident.
