A large number of students and job aspirants have blocked the Shahbagh intersection of the capital demanding the reinstatement of the circular issued by the government in 2018 canceling the quota system in government jobs. Due to the blockade, the passengers have suffered due to the lack of vehicles in the Shahbagh area.

On Thursday (July 4) afternoon, various areas around Shahbagh were visited, Shahbagh intersection was completely closed to traffic.

However, Shahbagh-bound vehicles from Farmgate are plying on the road in front of Hotel Intercontinental and via Banglamotor and on the other side, some vehicles are plying via Newmarket, inside Dhaka University and Chankharpool. However, due to the lack of vehicles, the passengers have suffered greatly. Especially the patients and their relatives who come to Shahbagh hospital for treatment are suffering. Many people are running from Shahbagh area to their destination on foot.

A middle-aged man named Nasir Uddin told Jago News, “My brother is admitted in PG Hospital. I came to see him with bedding. But the bus dropped at Banglamotor. I walked to the hospital from there. I will go back after work but there is no car here. To go by bus, you have to walk to the front of the Intercontinental Hotel.

Another person named Sohel Rana said, I will go to Mohakhali from Azimpur. The bus dropped off at Kantaban. I came to Shahbagh on foot from Kantaban. Come here and see that you can’t get Mahakhali bus without Banglamotor. Not only me, many people are walking like this.

Meanwhile, students are still protesting by blocking Shahbagh (4 pm).
