Three life sentences for killing a van driver by slitting his throat


The court sentenced three people to life imprisonment for killing a van driver by slitting his throat in Rajshahi. At the same time, a fine of 20,000 taka, in default of payment, each of them has been sentenced to another six months rigorous imprisonment.

Judge Mohammad Saifur Rahman Siddique of Rajshahi Crime Prevention Tribunal announced the verdict on Sunday (June 9) at noon. The accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced.

The convicts are Minarul Islam, Masud Rana of Askarpur Mohalla of Sadar Municipality of Charghat Upazila of Rajshahi and Julhas Imrul Kayes alias Jewel of Sadipur Mohalla.

State counsel Advocate Asaduzzaman Mithu told Jago News that on the evening of October 9, 2020, locals found battery-operated van driver Jalal Uddin lying with his throat cut on the side of the road in West Baliadanga village of Charghat Upazila. When they took him to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Jalal’s son, who was killed in this incident, filed a case at the police station the next day. After the investigation of the case, on April 25, 2021, the police filed a charge sheet against the three persons in the court. It is said that Jalal was killed by slitting his throat to steal the battery operated van.

He also said that a total of 17 people testified in the court in this case. After hearing the testimony, the judge announced the verdict as the charges brought against the accused were proved beyond doubt.
