Today is the death anniversary of Amjad Khan Chowdhury

Monday (July 8) is the death anniversary of Major General (retd) Amjad Khan Chowdhury, the pioneer of Bangladesh’s agro processing industry and the founder of Pran-RFL Group. He died on this day in 2015 while undergoing treatment in a US hospital.

On the occasion of the death anniversary of Amjad Khan Chowdhury, a special doa mahfil has been organized at Pran Center today at 5 pm.

According to family sources, Amjad Khan Chowdhury was born on November 10, 1939. He was born into a noble Chowdhury family in Natore district. His father late Ali Kashem Khan Chowdhury, mother late Amatur Rahman. Amjad Khan Chowdhury’s children are – Azar Khan Chowdhury, Dr. Sera Haque, Ahsan Khan Chowdhury and Uzma Chowdhury.

He started his education from Navkumar Institute in Dhaka. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1956. Later he completed his graduation from Australian Staff College. During his career, he served in various important positions in the army. Amjad Khan Chowdhury retired from the Bangladesh Army as a Major General in 1981.

After retiring from the army, he started the journey of PRAN-RFL Group by establishing Rangpur Foundry Limited (RFL). His creation Pran-RFL Group is currently the leading food and household products manufacturer in the country. About 145 thousand officers and employees are currently working in this group. PRAN-RFL products are regularly exported to 145 countries of the world.

The multi-talented Amjad Khan Chowdhury has served as president and director of various organizations including the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCL), Bangladesh Dairy Association.

Besides, he was the founder of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), Bangladesh Agro Processors Association (BAPA), Underprivileged Children’s Education Program (USEP).

He has played an important role in the private sector of the country by establishing businesses in the country and creating employment opportunities. He is known as a leading figure in the multi-purpose use of agriculture and agricultural products and achieving economic prosperity through this industry. Everyone will remember his contribution in social and cultural field. And his efforts in the economic development of the country have brought great prosperity to the business sector of the country.
