UP Chairman was beaten up by entering the office, blocking the road in protest

In Natore’s Baraigram, the Chairman was beaten up by entering the UP office. The incident took place at Majhgaon Union Parishad office of the upazila around 11 o’clock on Thursday (June 13). In protest, the locals blocked the Banpara-Dhaka highway.

The village police in charge of the council said that UP Chairman Abdullah Al Azad alias Dulal (50) was present in the office in the morning. At that time, suddenly the people of Natore-4 Constituency MP Siddiqur Rahman entered the chairman’s room and started arguing. At one point, he broke the glass of the table with a chair and injured the chairman with a kill-punch. At that time, when we proceeded with the chairman’s shout, the terrorists left with the motorcycle. Later the chairman was rescued and admitted to Baraigram Upazila Health Complex.

Injured Chairman Abdullah Al Azad Dulal said that a list of names of 2,249 people has been prepared for the Prime Minister’s Eid gift of 10 kg of rice. They demand that MP Siddiqur Rahman Patwari should give half of the total share of rice to these poor and needy people. As I refused it, 15-16 people including his followers Atiq Master, Siraj, Rana, Wazed Ali, Arif, Jiban Ghazi, Imran, Rajeev attacked me.

Meanwhile, thousands of local men and women protested the attack on the chairman and blocked the road. The blockade lasted from 12 noon to 1:15. On receiving the news, newly elected Chairman of Upazila Parishad Moazzem Hossain Bablu, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Laila Jannatul Ferdous, Additional Superintendent of Police of Baraigram Circle Sharif Al Rajeev, Officer In-Charge Shafiul Azam Khan came to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Siddiqur Rahman Patwari, Member of Parliament of Natore-4 Constituency, denied the allegations and said, “I do not know anything about this.”

Baraigram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiul Azam Khan said that if a complaint is received in this regard, legal action will be taken against the guilty after investigation.
