8 shops burnt to ashes in fire in Noakhali


Eight shops were gutted in a fire in Noakhali’s Chatkhil. The incident took place at Sahapur Bazar in Sahapur Union of the upazila on Saturday (June 8) around 1:30 pm.

Market traders and eyewitnesses said that the fire started from behind Jalil’s shoe shop and Joton Babu’s jeweler’s shop in Sahapur market. In no time, the fire spread to nearby shops. After receiving the information, the fire service personnel tried to bring the fire under control for about an hour.

Eight shops in the market, including jewellery, shoes and three large grocery shops, were gutted in the fire. The shop owners suspect that the fire may have started due to short circuit of the generator connection as there was no electricity at the time of the incident.

The general secretary of the market merchant association. Khorshed Alam told Jago News that the traders affected by the fire have lost everything and are sitting on the road. Since there was no electricity at that time. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate whether the generator is the cause of the fire.

Leader of Chatkhil Fire Service Station. Abul Kalam said, after receiving the news of the fire at 1:35 PM, I quickly went to the spot. After an hour of efforts, the fire was brought under control. Eight shops were gutted in the fire. The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire will be known after the investigation.
