Arafat, an active member of Ansar al-Islam, was arrested


Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) arrested Arafat Hossain (19), an active member of banned militant organization ‘Ansar Al Islam’. A mobile phone used in extremist activities, three SIM cards, a memory card and printed copies of 38 pages of screenshots containing various extremist writings were recovered from him.

On Monday (June 3), ATU Superintendent of Police (Media and Awareness) Mahfuzul Alam Russel gave this information.

He said that Arafat Hossain, an active member of Ansar Al-Islam, was arrested on June 2 during a raid in South Mithachari Baraiyapara area under Ramu police station of Cox’s Bazar. Arafat is an active member and supporter of Ansar al-Islam. He and his other associates had been trying to mobilize and organize the activities of Ansar al-Islam to endanger the unity and public safety of Bangladesh by capitalizing on religious misinterpretations.

With the aim of overthrowing the democratic system and establishing the so-called caliphate, they have been using various electronic media and social media to incite the public to engage in terrorist activities by propagating extremist content including the statements of the alleged leader of Ansar al-Islam, Jasim Uddin Rahmani, and the leader of the international terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden. .

The official of ATU also said that a regular case has been filed against the arrested Arafat Hossain in Ramu Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
