Clash over dominance in Kalkini, 3 injured in cocktail blast


A cocktail explosion took place in Madaripur’s Kalkini in a clash over dominance. Three people were injured. One of them has been sent to Dhaka Medical in critical condition.

The incident took place in Mridakandi village of Shikarmangal union of the upazila in the early hours of Friday (June 7).

Among the injured, Deen Islam (35), son of deceased Mofser Hawladar of Mrdhakandi village, is in critical condition. The remaining two were not admitted to the hospital for fear of arrest. So their names were not available.

Quoting the locals, the police said that there was a dispute between Apan Kazi of Mridhakandi village and Ansar Howladar and Kabir Khan of the same village over the spread of dominance. As a result, the people of Ansar Howladar and Kabir Khan clashed with Apan Kazi early on Friday morning with indigenous weapons. Several cocktail explosions took place during this time. Three people were injured. Among them, Deen Islam was admitted to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. Later, when the condition worsened, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, since the two groups of people are absconding since the incident, it was not possible to get a statement from anyone.

Superintendent of Police of Madaripur Mohammad Masud Alam said that the incident of cocktail explosion occurred in the conflict between the two parties due to dominance. Injuries were also reported. Police are working to nab those involved in the incident.
