How to maintain food safety

After buying food or vegetables, meat from the market, many people make mistakes about storing or cleaning it properly. And because of this they suffer from various problems including food poisoning. Many people are not aware about food safety.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides information on how to maintain food safety. For this, everyone has been asked to follow some ways. In this case, it is possible to protect the family from food poisoning by simple steps at home i.e. clean, separate, cook and store.

clean up

After buying various fruits and vegetables, wash them immediately under running water. Food poisoning bacteria can live in many places. Can even spread around your kitchen.

Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before preparing food, before eating, and after eating. Wash utensils, cutting board, stove, basin, etc. with hot soapy water.

Keep fish and meat separate

Raw meat, poultry, seafood and eggs can spread germs to other foods if not properly stored. For this, use separate cutting boards and plates for these foods.

Avoid mixing raw meat, poultry, seafood and eggs with other items when grocery shopping. Keep these raw foods in the refrigerator separately from other foods.

Cook to the right temperature

If food is cooked at the right temperature, its internal microbes are destroyed very quickly. The only way to know if your food is safely cooked is to use a food thermometer.

It is never possible to check whether the food is cooked properly or not by looking at the color and texture of the food. So use a food thermometer. Know at what temperature to cook any food-

>> All types of red meat, including beef, should be cooked to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Wait at least 3 minutes after cooking.
>> Fish with fins at 145 degrees F
>> Chicken and turkey should be cooked to 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Proper food storage rules

After cooking, many types of food are left at room temperature between 40-140 degrees Fahrenheit, which can cause bacteria to grow quickly.

Perishable food should never be left outside for more than 2 hours. And if the room temperature is 90 degrees Fahrenheit, then food cannot be kept outside for more than an hour.

So refrigerate perishable food within 2 hours. Refrigerated food can be safely heated in cold water or in the microwave after proper storage.

But never thaw food at room temperature. As a result, bacteria will grow rapidly in that food. Today is World Food Security Day. This day is celebrated by the United Nations and various health organizations to show how important it is to maintain food safety for our health and well-being.
