Mango export officially started, target 3 thousand 100 metric tons


Mango export program has been officially inaugurated. Agriculture Minister inaugurated the mango export program at the central packing house located in Shyampur of the capital on Monday afternoon. Md. Abdus Shaheed.

It was informed on the occasion that mango export was officially inaugurated on Monday (June 10), but since the last week of May, around 189 metric tons of Gopalbhog and Himsagar mangoes have been exported to 15 countries. Today (Monday) 25 metric tonnes of mangoes are being exported to England, Germany, Italy and France in 14 consignments.

This year, the Ministry of Agriculture has set a target of exportable 3 thousand 100 metric tons of mangoes of Gopalbhog, Himsagar, Amnapali, Fazli, Surma Fazli, Bari-4 varieties to around 38 countries of the world. In the past 2023, 3 thousand 92 metric tons of mangoes were exported to 38 countries of the world.

Addressing the mango exporters, the minister said that the central packing house at Shyampur has been modernized and strengthened to increase mango exports. Work is ongoing to remove other barriers.

The minister said that Bangladeshi mangoes have enough reputation and demand in different countries of the world. If mangoes are supplied from Bangladesh to the mainstream supermarkets of developed countries, the export volume of mangoes will increase significantly and the mango producers will be more profitable.

He said, mango export is very likely to increase foreign income. Agriculture friendly present government is implementing various measures to earn significant amount of foreign exchange through mango export.

Meanwhile, due to low production of several crops, including mangoes, due to the heat this year, the agriculture minister also said that in order to increase agricultural production, farmers will be supplied with fertilizers, seeds, pesticides and all other agricultural materials on time.
