“MP murder” and “Benazir’s corruption” in the question of DU exam!

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed’s corruption has been heavily discussed and criticized. Meanwhile, Anwarul Azim Anar, Member of Parliament of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency, was brutally murdered in India. These two issues are currently the ‘talk of the country’.

When the two events were at the peak of discussion and criticism, the two topics came up in the examination question paper of a post-graduate course of Sociology Department of Dhaka University. The question paper has been formulated on the subject of former IGP Benazir’s corruption and MP Anna’s murder.

There is a lot of discussion on social media about this issue. Most netizens are referring to it as ‘Teacher’s Creativity in Question Papers’. They are giving various posts praising the teacher of that course.

It has been revealed that the first and second mid-term examination of the first semester of the first semester of Master’s in Sociology was held on Monday (June 3). The course is titled ‘Theories of Social Change: From Modernity to Postmodernity’. The teacher of this course is Professor Dr. AI Mahbub Uddin Ahmed.

In question number two, about a report on Time TV, ‘Benazir’s corruption: Government’s view and will the anti-corruption commission be active?’ The title asks to analyze the capitalist process of Bangladesh according to the theory of Marx and Harvey.

Rashedul Islam, a Master’s student of the Department of Sociology who participated in the exam, said that the questions asked by Sir in today’s exam are similar to our course. He asked questions in line with the theories of various scholars including Kalmarks. There is no mixed reaction among the students on this. The question asked by sir is based on truth and reality.

Meanwhile, many people praised the teacher by sharing the picture of the question paper on Facebook. Former student of the department Maruf Raihan wrote in his post on Facebook, ‘Professor Dr. AI Mahbub Uddin Ahmed Sir is a jewel of the Department of Sociology of DU.

A person named Arif Billah wrote on Facebook, ‘I read the questions. Really awesome and creative question to say.’

However, while many appreciated the first two questions, many questioned the fifth question of the same question paper. Some have commented that it contains ‘obscenity’ and ‘touchy’ subjects.

If you want to know about the matter, Professor Dr. AI Mahbub Uddin Ahmed told Jago News, ‘Questions have been prepared for the students according to the rules. It’s not a big deal for me whether someone praised or criticized someone here. Students will understand the type and depth of the questions and answer them. Whether they understand the question or not, that is the evaluation of my work.’
