Higher secondary level stipend rate for disabled students is increasing by Rs. The stipend has increased from Tk 950 to Tk 1,500.

Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali gave this information in the proposed budget speech of the financial year 2024-25 in the National Parliament on Thursday (June 6). In the next financial year, the size of the national budget for development and underdevelopment is 7 lakh 97 thousand crores.

The finance minister said that our utmost efforts are continuing to protect the interests and rights of the disabled. The number of disability allowance recipients for the next financial year will be increased from the current 29 lakh to 32 lakh 34 thousand. Besides, it has been decided to increase the rate of higher secondary level stipend for disabled students from the existing 950 taka to 1 thousand 50 taka.

He said that the Ministry of Social Welfare has been giving capitation grants to the orphans and underprivileged children of the society in private orphanages under the social safety net. At present, the software has been developed as part of a pilot program aimed at giving capitation grants to private orphanages on smart systems (G2I). In the meantime, piloting activities have been completed in four districts of Dhaka Division (Dhaka, Narayanganj, Narsingdi and Gazipur). Piloting activities will be completed in 64 districts of the country in the next fiscal year 2024-25. And in FY 2025-26 capitation grant will be given directly through EFT through G2I system as a bank to private orphanages/institutions across the country.

“Currently more than 93 percent of the cash-based social security scheme benefits are being paid under the GUP (Government-to-Beneficiary) system and the remaining cash-based schemes will also be brought under this system in the next financial year.”
