A fifth class student named Samiul Islam (11) died after being injured during a football match in Nawabganj, Dinajpur.
The incident took place on Monday (June 10) at around 12 noon at Shalkhuria Dmukhi High School ground in Shalkhuria Union of Upazila.
Samiul is the son of Joynal Hossain of that area. He was a fifth standard student of Beramalia Government Primary School.
The head teacher of the school, Jamila Khatun, confirmed the death of a student.
According to school sources, the Bangabandhu and Bangamata Gold Cup football tournament is going on with primary school students at Shalkhuria High School ground in the upazila. The final match at the union level of this competition was being held between Beramalia and Chhota Tentulia Government Primary Schools. Samiul was seriously injured while giving a head during the game. Later he was quickly taken to the Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Primary Education Officer Parimal Chandra Barman said, ‘The student was taken to the Upazila Health Complex as soon as he was injured. Still we are looking into the matter.’
Inspector Moniruzzaman of Nawabganj police station said that a teenager named Samiul Islam was injured while playing football. He later died on the way to the hospital. Legal action will be taken in this case.
