Three people died in Chapainawabganj due to lightning. The incident took place on Friday (June 7) in the afternoon of Shibganj and Bholahat upazilas.
The deceased are Bobby Bhakat (32), wife of Subhas Bhakat of Alidanga Mohalla of Shibganj town area, Kavita Khatun (8), daughter of Ershad Ali Rakibul of Dakshinpanka Nishipara of Paka Union of the upazila and Amena Khatun (10), daughter of Eslam Ali of Dakinpara area of Bholahat upazila.
Shibganj Upazila Project Implementation Officer Engineer Ariful Islam said that at noon Bobby Bhakat was standing in a mango garden in front of the house. At that time he died due to lightning. On the other hand, a child named Kavita Khatun died while fetching tubewell water in South Nishipara area of Paka Union.
Bholahat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Suman Kumar said that while picking mangoes in a mango orchard in Baragachi village of the upazila, Amena Khatun fell to the ground and lost consciousness due to lightning. With the help of locals, he was rescued and taken to the Bholahat Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
