A young man named Abdul Qayyum (18) was killed by a train while trying to save a cow in Kaliganj of Lalmonirhat.
The incident took place at North Gopalrai village of Kakina Union of the upazila at 3 pm on Friday (June 7).
The deceased Abdul Qayyum is the son of Abdul Qadeer of North Gopalrai village of upazila.
Locals said that the Kartoa Express train from Lalmonirhat to Burimari reached Sukandighi area around 3 pm. At that time Abdul Qayyum saw a cow standing on the railway line and went to save it. He was seriously injured by the train and died on the spot.
Kakina Union Parishad Chairman Tahir Tahu said that he came to know about the incident through the UP member of the concerned ward.
Confirming the truth of the incident, Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ferdous Hossain said that railway police are being sent to the spot.
