‘Constable killed by constable’ said IGP


Another constable Kausar Ahmed shot and killed a police constable named Monirul Islam in front of the Palestine Embassy located in the Baridhara diplomatic area of ​​Gulshan police station of the capital. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said the police are investigating the reason why Kawsar killed Monirul.

The IGP said this in response to reporters’ questions after visiting the scene at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday (June 8). DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman along with police headquarters and senior officials of DMP were present.

The IGP said, ‘Two of our constables were on duty in front of the Palestinian embassy around 11:45 pm. Constable Monirul Islam died on the spot after being shot by Constable Kausar Ali. In this incident, Sajjad Hossain, the driver of the Japanese Embassy, ​​was shot and injured. He is now under treatment at United Hospital.’

The police chief said that the driver Sajjad Hossain was shot three times, “The attacking constable has been taken to the police station and he has been released.” We are interrogating him. Monirul Islam’s body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Some bullet shells and 20 rounds were recovered from the spot. We are investigating the incident. Legal action will be taken if necessary.’

In response to a question, he said, “We will interrogate Constable Kausar to find out the cause of the incident.” I will reveal the main secret of the incident. It will not be too difficult to know the real secret.’

The embassy area is a very secure area. In response to the question whether such incidents reveal the weakness of law and order, the IGP said, ‘We had people at the scene. It is our people who did the incident. In fact, we are trying to know what caused the incident.’

When asked how Kawsar was arrested, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said, ‘After the incident, Kawsar kept his weapon and was walking around the place. Then he was arrested from the spot.’

When asked how the driver of the Japanese embassy was shot, the police chief said he was passing as a pedestrian. He was shot.

A constable is on duty for 16 hours a day in the diplomatic area. When asked whether many people are suffering from mental distress due to doing this duty, or whether Kausar was mentally disturbed or not, the IGP said, ‘We will investigate all the matters.’
