Couldn’t do in ODI World Cup, can Tamim play T20?

For a long time there was only one Tamim in Bangladesh cricket – Tamim Iqbal. He is known as the best opener in the country. But now when Tamim says, the question comes – ‘Which Tamim?’ Because one more person has come to the cricket arena of Bangladesh with this name. Not just in name – they play the same style, both are openers. Tamim Iqbal has retired from T20, but Tanjid Hasan Tamim went to play this year’s T20 World Cup.

He was born in Bogra. And like the parents of five sons, education was a priority in Tanjid’s family. Be it an engineer or a doctor, that’s what they wanted. That is why he was brought from the village to the city, studied in the district school. However, Tanjid continued to play while studying.

To be in his first under-19 team under the limelight. He is one of the members of the youth team that won the World Cup in 2020. After that, Tanjid gradually reached the top level. He made his ODI debut for the national team in August last year. Then, when Tamim Iqbal was dropped at the last moment, Tanjid went to play the ODI World Cup instead.

Couldn’t do much better though. He scored 152 runs in a half century after playing 9 matches. The team did not do much good either.

But Tanjid came into the discussion again with the latest BPL. He played in this tournament for Chittagong Challengers. After playing 12 matches, he scored 384 runs with 1 century and two half-centuries. He was also the fourth highest run scorer in BPL.

Even though he played the ODI World Cup, he did not get a chance in T20. Finally, just before the World Cup, Zimbabwe got a chance in the series in this format. In the first match, he played an unbeaten innings of 67 runs off 47 balls and won the team. He scored 160 runs in 5 matches.

The performance of the Zimbabwe series earned Tanjid Hasan a place in the World Cup squad as well. He is in the squad as the third opener along with Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das.

Not only that, because of Liton and Soumya’s off form, Tanjid Hasan Tamim can get a chance as a regular opener in this World Cup. He will surely try to make up for the regret of not being able to play the ODI World Cup in T20.
