Demanding money by threatening to conduct mobile courts in pharmacies


Police arrested a fake magistrate named Shahjahan Ali (45) in Gobindganj, Gaibandhar.

He was arrested from Nakaihat market of the upazila on Thursday (June 6) afternoon. Detained Shahjahan Ali is a resident of New Babupara village of Syedpur Upazila of Nilphamari.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindganj Police Station Shamsul Alam Shah confirmed the matter last night.

According to the police, Shahjahan Ali demanded 50,000 taka from a medicine shop in Nakaihat market of Gobindganj upazila in the afternoon, posing as a magistrate. If the matter is suspected, the shopkeeper arrested him. Later the market people came and beat them up and informed the police. Later the police took him to the police station.

Joy Chandra Barman, a drug dealer in the market, said that Shahjahan Ali pretended to be a magistrate and demanded Tk 50,000 by threatening the mobile court. When the matter came to light, the businessmen and local people gave him to the police.

In this regard, Gobindganj police station OC Shamsul Alam Shah said that Shahjahan Ali was brought to the police station after he was rescued from the mob. The case is being prepared in this regard.
