The cost of Dhaka-Chittagong highway increased by Tk 111 crore


The development cost of four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong National Highway has been increased by Tk 111 crore. The government has decided to increase the expenditure for performance based operation and consolidation of Daudkandi-Chittagong section of the highway for 4 years. The Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement has approved two proposals given by the Road Transport and Highways Department in this regard.

On Tuesday (June 11), the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement held a meeting under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali at the Secretariat. This approval was given in that meeting. At the end of the meeting, the Secretary of Coordination and Reform of the Cabinet Department. Mahmudul Hossain Khan told this information to reporters.

He said, in view of the proposal of the Road Transport and Highways Department, the Cabinet Committee has approved the variation proposal for a package of ‘Performance Based Operation and Strengthening (1st Revised) for 4 years of the four-lane elevated Dhaka-Chittagong National Highway (Daudkandi-Chittagong Section)’ project. .

The cabinet committee has given permission to increase the expenditure by 36 crore 66 lakh 28 thousand 731 taka. The contract price of the project was 290 crore 26 lakh 94 thousand 765 taka. The newly increased cost is 12.63 percent more than the contract price.

The Cabinet Committee has approved another package variation for the project ‘Performance Based Operation and Strengthening (1st Revised) for 4 years of four-lane elevated Dhaka-Chittagong National Highway (Daudkandi-Chittagong Section)’ in view of another proposal of Road Transport and Highways Department. In this proposal, the new expenditure has been increased by 74 crore 60 lakh 52 thousand 612 taka.

The original contract price of this package of the project was 556 crore 54 lakh 43 thousand 883 taka. The newly increased cost is 13.41 percent more than the contract price. Abdul Momen Limited and Spectra Engineers Limited are jointly doing this work.

In the meeting, the cabinet committee approved the proposal to increase the cost of two packages of the project ‘Sunamganj-Madanpur-Dirai-Shalla-Jalsukha-Ajmiriganj-Habiganj highway section Shalla-Jalsukha road construction (1st revised)’.

Out of this, the cost of one package has been increased by 73 crore 57 lakh 62 thousand 391 taka. The original contract price of this package was 151 crore 22 lakh 78 thousand 556 taka. Accordingly, the cost of this package of the project has increased by 48.65 percent.

This expenditure has been increased due to change in formation level of approach road, soil filling at engineer building site, increase in length/width due to design change in pavement, construction of 10 road slab culverts including 750 mm diameter piles, 10 RCC slab culverts, increase in slope area of ​​road embankment.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement has approved an increase in the cost of another package of the project by 395.8686 thousand 325 rupees. The original contract price of this package was 86 crore 56 lakh 30 thousand 662 taka. Compared to the original contract price, the cost has now increased by 45.73 percent.

This expenditure has been increased due to the construction of pilings, construction of stack yards and sheds in culvert construction, construction of toll plazas, package revision of Kalni Bridge, construction of submersible irrigation structures, original width of the road increased from 5.5 meters to 7.30 meters, installation of sign signals.
