Police arrested 19 people along with 11 trucks of Indian sugar in Shaistaganj of Habiganj. The police sent the accused to the court on Friday (June 7) around 5 pm.
According to the police and local sources, on Thursday afternoon, raids were conducted in Deundi road area of the upazila and the accused were arrested along with these stolen sugar. Meanwhile, 19 people including truck driver, helper and smuggler were arrested.
The arrested are Nizam Uddin (38), son of Abdus Samad of Maniknagar area of Savar, son of Shukur Jamadar of Arpara village of Muhammadpur upazila of Magura. Moktar Hossain (26), son of Namir Uddin of Jayakrishnapur area of Rajshahi. Sajjad Ali (45), son of Kalam Ali of Belpukur area of the same district. Tamim (19), son of Jalal Uddin of Jaintapur area of Sylhet. Haroon Al Habib Rashid (26), son of Inchar Ali of Haldigachi area of Rajshahi. Rubel Ali (40), son of Hannan Ali of the same area. Hanif Ali (20), son of Faizul Hasan of Sylhet’s Jaintapur area, Fakhrul Islam (42), son of Maqbul Mandal of Ganeshpur area of Naogaon Hela. Akmal Hossain (25), son of Manglapara Kalim Uddin Sarkar of the same district. Moazzem Ali (25), son of Jahangir Hossain of Katakhali area of Rajshahi. Salim Reza (47), Rocky Mia (22) son of Azad Ali of Airport area of the same district and Rajeev Ali son of Abdur Razzak of Shahmuddin area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shaestaganj Police Station Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan said that a case has been filed against the accused under the Special Powers Act and sent to the court.
